Prof Jennifer Chipps

Professor (Dr) Jennifer Chipps is an Emeritus Professor at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and serves as the Faculty of Community Health Sciences Research Chair in Person-centered Digital Health. She holds a Ph.D. in Telepsychiatry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and has previously held esteemed roles at the University of Sydney, NZ Health Research Council, NSW Department of Health, and UKZN’s Department of Telemedicine.

Professor Chipps actively contributes to global health informatics through leadership roles with the International Council of Nurses Telenursing Working Group, AMIA’s International Nursing Informatics SIG, and various WHO and national advisory groups. Her research spans digital health—including AI, mHealth, and informatics—educational technologies, mental health, epidemiology, and evidence synthesis.
