Mr Chris Cockett

Chris has over 30 years’ experience in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence, the majority of which have been within the healthcare and medical aid industries. Chris began his career as a scientific officer in Clinical Chemistry working for the N.H.S in England. In 1981, Chris emigrated to South Africa to work for the South African Institute for Medical Research (S.A.I.M.R.) in the Pathology unit at the newly built Johannesburg General Hospital. However his interest in IT resulted in his change in career direction from 1984 from which time he spent several years in the HealthCare IT industry. During this time Chris was involved in the design, development and maintenance of a Pathology Laboratory Information System with Altech. From there Chris became the Healthcare Systems Software Development Manager with Unisys, overseeing the development and maintenance of software covering the complete spectrum of functionality found in Hospital Information Systems. In 1996, he moved into Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence and in 1997 was a member of the Data Warehouse implementation team at Medscheme where he remained until 2011 as Senior Manager in the Health Intelligence Unit. Chris joined Liberty Health in August 2011 to set up an Enterprise Data Warehouse for the organization. Chris actively involves himself in Medical Informatics and has presented both nationally and internationally on various topics at conferences and congresses. Chris has a special interest in clinical coding systems with a particular interest in pathology and has published research specific to the LOINC coding system.
